Find your Balance

Shiatsu

Shiatsu is neither a classic massage nor a purely symptomatic treatment, as we are used to in Western medicine.  Shiatsu is not a therapy and aims to prevent illness. It attempts to correct physical imbalances. Breathing, stretching, moving, activating and adjusting the Qi (energy flow) play an important role in this. Shiatsu is therefore a form of bodywork that is influenced by Far Eastern tradition and harmonises body, mind and soul. Its origins lie in traditional Chinese and Japanese health teachings.

In Japanese, ‘shi’ means finger and ‘atsu’ means pressure that is applied along the meridians, the so-called energy channels of the body, to the needs of the person. Gentle, deep pressure is used to get the Qi - our life energy - flowing. This energy can be too much, too little or blocked and create an energetic imbalance.
